How We Celebrate World Read Aloud Day 2017

February 16, 2017

"You can find magic wherever you look.
Sit back and relax all you need is a book"
-Dr. Seuss

Read Aloud. Change the World. This year, World Read Aloud Day is on February 16, 2017. World Read Aloud Day points out worldwide the significance of reading aloud and sharing stories.

Let me give you a short background on #WRAD. World Read Aloud Day was created in 2010 by LitWorld  a renowned literacy organization, to motivate the people to celebrate the power of words and create a community of readers to share the message that Read Aloud is a powerful act of social engagement that can change lives.

Millions of people in over 100 countries is celebrating the beauty and power of the read aloud today.

In our home, I always read aloud to my son every night. I read a story, a poem, a news article, anything that I can read to him. This is part of his routine before going to bed and honestly, our reading session is always fun! This is one of our bonding moments together. I think parents plays a big role in developing the reading habit for kids. (Luigi's mom is a librarian and a reader by the way!). This is the Gift of Reading.

In honor of World Read Aloud Day, let me share to you how we celebrate the special day. This time, instead of Mommy reading, Luigi is the one who read aloud.

The title of the book is Finding Dory:Ocean of Color.
As you can see, the book is already damaged because he reads it over and over again. This is his favorite book. Sometimes he has the habit of keeping the book under his pillow.

Luigi - The boy who loves to read

I would like to take this opportunity to thank my UP Diliman Professors Teacher Nemah, Teacher Hazelle and Teacher Portia for teaching me how to appreciate children's literature, and discover the love of reading for kids. And also to my Librarian friends  Ms. Ann, Sir Darrel and Ms. Zarah. who gives me tips, materials, and recommend books for children. These are the people who inspires and motivates me to read aloud to my son. Thank you guys! I will share more stories as we journey together.

Oppo F1s: Valentine's Dream Date

Valentine's Day. The day of celebrating romantic love. But for me, Valentine's day takes on a whole new meaning to me. No more candle light dinners, flowers and romantic date nights. As a single mom,  Valentine's date doesn't need a man because I have LUIGI, my little one to snuggle up with.

This Valentine's Day, our dream date is to have  "quality time" together.

Looking for fun stuff to do with your kiddos? Check out the 6 fun ways mom and son celebrate the day.

1. Dress up as Team Nintendo

This is pure fun! We love, laugh and enjoy doing things together. I'm talking about mother and son, one of the loveliest relationship on earth. So in order to celebrate this relationship, we will dress up as Mario and Luigi aka Team Nintendo (This is our theme for 2017). We really love this cute theme.

Why we love Nintendo theme? Simply because I'm a Nintendo gamer and my son's name is LUIGI!

2. Act silly, be crazy and have fun!

Run, Jump, Play...When are together, we are crazy, silly and weird. Life is too short to be serious all the time.

3. Dance like no one's watching

"Dance like no one's watching" - William W. Purkey

I think this quotes means to be yourself; to act like everything is okay. Dance and have fun. This quote tells you to be happy and positive.

Weird fact about us: When a good song comes on, we start to dance. We don't care who's watching. Oh by the way, there's a little Italian dance that we like. It's Do the Mario in Just Dance 3.

4. Watch and Listen to a Free Valentine Concert

Most of the malls and parks sponsors free concert that features love songs to serenade the public. It's a free evening of love, haunting and romantic melodies. Because the sound of music makes Luigi relax, we will sit back, watch and listen.

5. Eat comfort food

Our favorite comfort food? Pizza and milkshake!

6. Cuddle

"Gusto ko kiss!" (I want kiss!) Those words coming from my son's mouth sounds sweet to my ears. Cuddling, snuggling, smiling, laughing and kissing. All the things we want to do when we are together.

While most of our moments together were taken by my sister (because she has a professional camera), I realized that I need not a professional camera to capture those moments. I just need a great smartphone to capture our favorite Valentines moment. I want OPPO F1s to capture the beauty of LOVE.  What I like most is its 16MP Front Camera and 13MP Rear Camera not only takes detailed shots, but also performs well in the dark areas making it as the perfect camera-phone to capture all our moments as we journey together.

To all the single parents, Valentine's day is a fun holiday. Choose to celebrate the love of God has given you. Use Valentine's day to bond with your children and do some fun and creative activities together. Make the day all about them.

Spread the LOVE everyone! Happy Valentine's Day! ❤❤❤

How to Celebrate Valentine's Day with Luigi

It's Feb-ibig month. Happy Valentine's Day everyone!

As Heart's day is fast approaching, I started to think about how Valentine's Day hasn't been about me in a long time. As a single parent, that day would be all about my son, my most important person in my life and that is LUIGI.

Valentine and single motherhood is fun because I have a little adventurous guy to sneak with.

February is our favorite month because it is actually his birth month (he is turning 7 by the way!) that is why we have all the reasons to celebrate this LOVE month.

Here's our 5 things to do on Valentine's Day

1. Go to Tagaytay

Tagaytay is a popular holiday town south of Manila. This is a perfect place for us because of its cool and breezy climate. We can relax, unwind and be one with nature. Luigi loves this place so much because of its fresh air and the sight of the Taal volcano makes him relax. God is so good! He created such a breathtaking sceneries to feast our eyes onto.

2. Buy organic fruits and vegetables at Mahogany Market

Drop by at Mahogany market to buy fresh fruits and vegetables. Because we are health conscious, we will  buy organic foods.

3. Go crazy and senti at Twin Lakes

Do some crazy stuffs like riding the elevator for the nth time. (It's like a joy ride for us. Call us crazy but that's US!). I think we will do and discover more crazy stuffs as we journey together.

Mom and son talk. Storytelling. Trivia. All the things we can talk about under the sun. By the way, every words he would say is so special for me. I think most of us in our family do this: Whenever he talk, we all stop to listen. To listen and understand. To understand and later explain what is the word... Use the word in a sentence. (Hey, we are working on his vocabs!). We are work in progress.

4. Dress up as Team Nintendo

Mario and Luigi comes alive! While most people will wear red, we will dress up as Team Nintendo.

TRIVIA: Luigi's name comes from:
1. a fictional character featured in video games released by Nintendo
2. Italian baby name. famous warrior. Luigi is an alternate form of Louis (French, Old German)

5. Dinner at Bag of Beans

We'll top off the night with our favorite food: Pizza and milkshake.

To me, Valentines' Day is a special day to celebrate the people you love, that love you back. Like, for REAL. Valentine's day is not only for those who have romantic partners. You can also celebrate it with your kids, friends, families and to the people who matters most.

Happy Valentine's Day and spread the LOVE everyone!

Huling Yakap (One Last Hug)

Unang araw ng taon. January 1, 2016.

Fred & Sally 40th wedding anniversary

Here's a short video of our Mama and Papa's love.

Naniniwala ba kayo sa "Forever?"

I always hear those questions whenever the topic is about LOVE.

Well, my answer is YES!

Why? Because I witnessed how my favorite couple show their love for each other through thick or thin, in sadness and in health, in joy and sadness.

I am proud to say that my parents had celebrated their 40 years of love last September 7, 2015.

40 years of loving together!

We are so blessed to have an amazing parents. Seeing true love through you makes my heart happy.

Thank you Mama and Papa for being an inspiration to us.

Experience Magical Ice Festival At the Big Dome

It’s that time of the year again. As Christmas fast approaches, a palpable sense of excitement fills the air with the return of an all time Filipino favorite – the annual staging of Disney On Ice at the Big Dome.

There is much to look forward to in this year’s show. Aside fromworld-class skaters who make up its talented ensemble, Disney On Ice presents Magical Ice Festival will feature Disney’sAcademy Award® winningand number one animated feature film of all time Frozen, along with three Disney royal adventures!

“This year’s Disney On Ice is truly magical with Disney properties that are packed with heart and personality. We have princesses that are exuberant and strong-willed, but we’ve also expanded the roles of spirited supporting characters, so that they’re more prominent in the show,”says Producer Nicole Feld.

For the first time on ice, watch your favorite Disney stars Anna and Elsa, together with hilarious snowman Olaf, rugged mountain man Kristoff and his loyal reindeer Svenin a magical winter adventure.

“The most exciting part of bringing characters like Anna and Elsa to the ice for the first time is knowing that they have a powerful and inspiring message the resonates with audiences as the sisters discover the true meaning of love,” says producer Nicole Feld.

Audiences will also enjoy comical segments with captivating stories of princesses Ariel, Rapunzel and Belle in a new twist of fairytale fun featuring Disney’s The Little Mermaid, Tangled, and Beauty and the Beast.

“By pulling together moments from classic Disney stories to the newest feature film sensation Frozen and combining them with elements of comedy and music, we developed a truly unique way to re-tell each fairytale,” says Producer Juliette Feld.

Dazzling costume designs, spectacular set elements, and jaw-dropping stunts are also what make this year’s show even more exhilarating.

In Beauty and the Beast’s “Be Our Guest,” the theatrical elements of the glitzy napkins and silverware costumes will astound audiences. “The costumes are designed to emphasize the overwhelming amount of table d├ęcor that appears in the movie. The napkins unfold to increase their size and the forks tower over the heads of the performers. This is a big moment for Belle; the costumes need to reflect that,”says Costume Designer Cynthia Nordstrom.

Moreover, lighting plays a crucial role in giving the overall production a truly magical feel.
“The colors really pull you into the different worlds of the princesses, but it’s how the lights are arranged that command your attention when the characters are performing their acts. For example, when the Daughters of Triton are introduced, the lighting individually highlights each of them. Your eyes follow the spotlights,” says Lighting Designer Sam Doty.

Experience Magical Ice Festival at the Big Dome from December 25 to January 3 and don’t miss the chance to see your favorite Disney stars LIVE! Buy your tickets via TicketNet online or call 911-5555 for more details.
